ESA TO UC MIGRATION was created by gwrman
Can anyone tell me what the process is for someone like me who is on ESA with severe disability premium (I am blind and have a guide dog) for having to go onto UC. Will I have to go onto UC ? Will I be treated differently to what I am now. My current reviews for both ESA & PIP are “ongoing” I think the term is so they don’t give me fixed time periods for how long my awards last for. I’m just concerned for what the future may hold for me regarding UC. I’d be grateful for any help or advice, thanks.

Hi gwrman

Thank you for your question.

The answer is that eventually everyone on a legacy benefit will be asked to go on to Universal Credit.

What we do not yet know is how claimants who are claiming legacy benefit will be asked to apply for UC, it could be via jobcentre areas.

The Government state that you should not be any worse off when your time comes to move over to UC. I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation when the time comes to move over; You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk .

We will let members know in our newsletter once we have more information, so for the time being try not to worry about it.

no sure that this is relevant or old news ,or ive misread the situation entirely but here goes

i was contacted by a lady from wellingborough esa department in late december last year about evidence of partners earnings , and she told at the present time it was not possible to upload items such as proof of income etc to them ,

but she said that as legacy benefits esa included had been extended that they would be updating the system to make this possible in the future

this suggests to me that the esa will be with us for a while longer if they are going to put time and effort into bringing it up to date in this way .so the change over to uc may be some time off yet hopefully

Hi bonniedog

Thank you for your information, I have not yet had any information in regards to legacy benefits moving to UC so I cannot yet comment.

The back office will put details in our newsletter when they have any information.

Thanks for the information, I need to ask some other questions but think I need to start a new post but I seem to be having great difficulty doing that at the moment as I get some error message about Kunena internal error please enable kunena debug Mode…… I think it’s something to do with how the forum is built but at the moment it won’t let me submit a new post
