Housing benefit on ESA was created by ChrissieT
I’m trying to claim housing benefit for the pitch fee for the caravan lodge I live in in East Sussex and getting a lot of mixed information even from the Citizens Advice specialist team. I moved from Wales and receive ESA and PIP but this area has UC and I being advised that if I apply to change over I might still not get housing benefit and would probably get less benefit. Can anyone offer any advice on this please?

Hi ChrissieT
Your question is outside the remit of the forum. You may want to contact Shelter helpline: 0808 800 4444.
All areas now come under UC, if you move from one LA area to another LA and you need help with rent then you will have to apply for UC. The law changed in January last year, claimants in receipt of ESA and receiving SDP were exempt from UC but not any more. If you move within the same LA then you can stay on HB.
If you need help with rent and you move LA then you will have to apply for UC in which case your ESA will stop and any premiums you receive will also stop. If you do not need to claim HB then your 'legacy benefits' can continue when you move to a different LA area.

Hi Chrissie, This does not answer your question, but a friend lived on a boat while she was doing it up, and got HB to cover her mooring fees (15 years ago though). I would speak to the local council housing benefit department. [You will lose premiums if you move to UC].
