Engaging with others face to face was created by Rebecca01*
Hello, me again. I am still waiting for the decision maker to ring me back regarding washing & bathing and making a meal… I was hoping whilst I had him on the phone (rather than wait for decision letter and appeal) wether to bring up the face that the assessor gave me points for ‘needing prompting to engage with others face to face’ her reason for this was although I am diagnosed with agoraphobia, social anxiety, panic attacks and general anxiety and don’t interact socially AT ALL EVER not even family, she says because I engaged with her on the phone and even though she could tell I was anxious and spoke to fast (her words) I still managed the call and was polite therefore she advises I can engage face to face with prompting??? I don’t understand her reasoning. I cannot attend any form of appointments face to face without extreme distress and illness, I can’t even manage a face to face video call. I only just about manage on a phone call because I feel safer behind a screen as they can’t see me. Surely a phone call cannot be classed as face to face social engagement?? She even noted in her report that she could tell I was “anxious, tense and spoke excessively”

Hi Rebecca01*
I'm not an assessor or a decision-maker, but I agree with you that speaking on the telephone is not the same as face to face engagement. But even if it was and you did this once - it does not mean that you can do it on any other occasions without it causing you enormous psychological distress. It sounds very much you may have to argue this point at appeal.

Thank you, do you think it’s worth me bringing it up with the decision maker whilst he’s on the phone today? Rather than waiting till my claim is decided then appealing? I thought I could catch him before he makes his decy, because the assessors report is not final is it? Xx

Hi Rebecca01*
I can't tell you what to do here. You have to do whatever you're comfortable with. You know your medical condition/s and your difficulties. You have nothing to lose by saying it.
