PIP and council tax support help was created by phrank
Hi all,

I've read that PIP recipients may be entitled to council tax support but cannot find anything conclusive despite much 'googling'.

I wonder if the mods or any forum members can enlighten me?

Regards,

Phrank.

Hi phrank

Unfortunately your question is outside the remit of the forum.

Council tax support varies from one local authority to another, when we had Council tax benefit there was one benefit which covered all the local authorities but not any more.

CTS depends on each claimants circumstances, contact your local Welfare Rights Organisation advicelocal.uk or use a benefit calculator: gov.uk/benefits-calculators

Hi Gary,

Thank you for your reply. I guessed it might not be a forum issue but just thought I'd ask.

Kind regards,

Phrank.

Not exactly PIP dependent Phrank, but we got a one-council-tax-band reduction, not means tested, for my husband after having a downstairs shower room put in. Our council's criterion is the installation of a room for disability reasons.
So worth checking if you do something similar.

Hi Phrank,

People usually get a discount or reduction if they have no or low income, are disabled or live alone.

The best people who can answer is your council's benefits/council tax department as any reduction is based on the person's individual circumstances. It is also at each council’s discretion to make a decision, through their own processes, whether one is eligible for support.

You can phone them or citizens advice, if you are able to, and ask if you'd be eligible for some support.

Best wishes,

Josh
