PIP Award Review

Back in 2018, with much help from B&W, I was awarded PIP at the enhanced rate until February 2022 which was then extended to November 2022 due to Covid.

Now I’ve been sent Award Review form. At first I thought it would be much easier to complete than the original claim form as my health issues and problems have not changed.

But having read your guide and your suggestion to include as much information as possible I’m struggling to understand what’s best for me to do.

Because my energy levels fluctuate I found the original claim form difficult to fill in so ended up sending additions sheets for just about every question. These ending up about A4 sheet of typed information for each question and then a further 4 A4 sheets for the Mandatory Reconsideration process that I had to go through.

So my question is should I send ALL this information to them again, or will this be too much information this time?

Thanks

Hi Woolybrained,
My personal advice is that you include as much information as possible. When filling out forms I will repeat things again and again. I do this partly to explain the reason for not performing the relevant PIP activity, but also to tell the correct story. If you say you have eg bad arthritis in your hands and feet and have painful gnarled fingers as a result, I would say Descriptor 1 - I can't cook due to my gnarled painful hands..., Descriptor 2 I can't hold cutlery due to my arthritic hands...Descriptor 3 I can't open pill packets due to arthritis etc etc - Even things like reading I would potentially mention -'Due to arthritis I struggle to turn over the pages of the book, but although I am slow, it is within 'a reasonable time'. Yes, very repetitive, but you would hopefully think that by the time the decision maker gets to '...I can't walk more than 15m, due to arthritis...' then he will have gotten the message, and award the correct points.
However, re-read what you have written, and perhaps get a friend to critique it. If you have not really pinpointed how your health affects you, and more importantly how you can/can't do PIP activities then the decision maker may not understand why you are claiming, and therefore may get confused and use this as an excuse not to award points! You might be able to 'crop' what you have said if the responses spell out many examples of not being able to do PIP activities. You could use bullet points or lists etc which might make things clearer.
Others might disagree, but for me, put in as much information as you can, with supporting evidence. As long as what you have written is clear, even if repetitive then send it in, all of it.
Do copy everything before sending it it, including any forms etc. You may wish to send it as recorded delivery.
Good luck!
I hope this helps.
