PIP assesment moved forward 10 months-help!

Hi all,I hope you can help. This is my first time posting, so apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.Last year I was informed by the DWP that the date where I had reclaim for my PIP award had been moved back to December 2022 due to the Covid outbreak.Today (29th Jan) I received a letter, along with the PIP assessment forms. The letter telling me that I needed to resubmit my claim by the end of February, giving me three weeks to gather all of my medical evidence & complete the form. It seems that the DWP have ignored the fact the assessment had been moved to December.
Has anyone else encountered this sudden backtracking on their promise to push back the assessment because of Covid-is it just a clerical oversight or are they being underhanded and forcing me to suddenly scramble to complete my forms, 10 months early? I will be contacting them after the weekend and it would be great to go into that telephone call armed with some knowledge of my rights in this situation, so I don't get fobbed off by their lies. Thanks all!

Hi Marc

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Yes we have had many reports on the forum where claimants have been given an extension to their claim only to then receive the review form.

You do need to complete the form and return it to the DWP, if you require more time then contact DWP before the due date and ask for an extension, DWP will usually give you a two week extension. When ever you send anything to the DWP make sure you send it by recorded delivery as the post can go missing.

There have been some changes to the PIP criteria since you were last assessed so please make use of the latest version of our PIP Claim guide

If you have any specific questions then please come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

Hi Marc and welcome!

The extensions that were given to people, including myself and people that I know were purely for covid reasons so that PIP could catch up with backlogs and then when ready would send your renewals; it was an extension for them too so to speak.
A lot of people were told this in online forums but really didn't expect it when their forms came through the door well before the extension date given. PIP usually send the forms 6 to 12 months before renewal but with covid this all changed.
Things are starting to get a little bit more back to normal so the extensions were just a temporary belt and braces type of thing that are being phases out.

What you can do is ask for a few weeks extension to prepare your renewal and they should give you at least 4 weeks more maybe 6.

Hi both!

Thank you for your warm welcomes and for replying so quickly!
Thank you so much for laying that out for me, I will definitely ask for an extension when speaking to them on Monday.

Have a great weekend and thanks again!

Hi Marc,

I think you will find they have not sent it early as such, as Greekqueen has said they can send review forms between 6 to 12 months before the end of your award so therefore 10 months before end date is not early., so not backtracking..
Try to look at it possitivly you know you are going to get a review at some point anyway, so them having it 10 months before gives them more time to actually review it before your award runs out.
It is very stressful I know (I have just helped my daughter with hers) but am relieved to finally get it in the post.
Just do a bit at a time and you will eventually get it done, trying to do all at once is a nightmare.

Good luck
