75 year old on DLA HRM now needs care

A 75 year old man I do some care for is receiving HRM DLA on grounds of blindness (this was awarded yonks ago so I can't find the details) but he has clear day care needs. If he were to request a review or supersession of his DLA award now, what happens? Given his age, if he were to be considered for care, would this be under DLA rules?

Hi TashaR

As he was over 65 on the 8th April 2013 he would stay on DLA, he needs to ask for a change of circumstances if his health has deteriorated, was he not awarded any DLA Care component with his mobility?

As he is already in receipt of DLA then it would come under DLA, you will need to inform DLA that it is the care component you want to review as his health has deteriorated, as his carer they may do it over the phone or they may send you a form to complete.

If you need any help with his DLA we do have a guide: www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/?dlp=61f8872db2bab

Hi Gary,

Thank you so much for this. I have checked and double checked and definitely no care component! I'll use the excellent guides to help him and if I can, I'll update you with the result. Best wishes, TashaR

Hi TashaR

Thank you for going the extra step to help the person you care for, it nice to hear from helpers willing to help others even if it is not in their job description.

I frequently come across elderly claimants and those with mental health issues not receiving their entitlements and struggling on what they do get.

I came across someone yesterday who had been to see their workcoach but was not told about claiming LCWRA or PIP.
