DLA 78 YEAR OLD LOW CARE CURRENT TO HIGH CARE?

My husband has just received DLA update letter from DWP for his benefit award this year for mobility issues. He is currently in receipt of high mobility award but low care. During the last year he has been diagnosed with Dementia and is in need of far more care with regard to not being left and reminding him to take medication etc. Will I have to change to start again and change to PIP if I try to get a higher care payment?

Hi Quash

I answered a similar post to yours last week.

As your husband was born before 8th April 1948 then you will not have to apply for PIP.

You need to contact DLA: 0800 731 0122 and inform them of a change of circumstances, have a look at our guides before contacting DWP, www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/dla/#dlaclaims
There are two guides for adults; one for Adults On Physical Health Grounds and the other for Adults On Mental Health Grounds.

If you have any further questions, please come back to the forum.
