Where do I start? (ESA and PIP) was created by drummer53
Hello everyone I am new! thanks for having me

I have long term mental health issues and ADHD/ASD,

I have applied for PIP last year in april. It took months to get an appointent and then the appointments had been cancelled due to ill health a couple of times. I managed to stop them totally cancelling my claim (they were going to) but I kept calling and explaining why I missed the appointments, then I finally got a more sympathetic claim operator person and they said they'd make a new appointment and that they'd send me it in the post. This was about a month ago and I still haven't had a letter.

I only just applied for ESA, I was on universal credit but on the health pathway.. I have been unfit to work for about 3 months. Because nothing really seemed to happen with universal credit with the health assessment pathway, I decided to try new style ESA and see if that would be better.

I have been on ESA in the past.

Anyway I just joined Benefits and work as a member and I wondered where to start, is there something I should do? read? if anyone can sign post me with a link or something that would be much appreciated.

Hi Vincent

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

The first thing you need to do is contact DWP and inform them that you have not yet received your appointment that you was told was being sent in the post.

To get New Style ESA you’ll need to have been an employee or self-employed and paid (or been credited with) National Insurance contributions, usually in the last 2 to 3 years. You will also need to have a fit note (sometimes called ‘sick note’ or ‘doctor’s note’).

You can get New Style ESA on its own or at the same time as Universal Credit. If you apply for and are awarded both benefits, the New Style ESA you are paid will reduce your Universal Credit payment by the same amount.

The good place to start is with our guides;

For completing a WCA form (NS ESA): Claiming ESA guides in the members area.
For completing a PIP claims form: www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

If you have any specific questions then please come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
