Confused was created by lauren
Hi sorry if I waffle,I recently applied for PIP after managing to get appointments with a Rheumatologist and an Orthopedic consultant. They have found I have bulging discs in 3456 and L45 all of which are pinching my spinal chord.I also suffer from anxiety and depression and fibromyalgia.I applied a few weeks ago now when I was in a really bad place pain wise and having problems walking .I am worried I will have to have an assessment and wondered what the experiences of others with similiar complaints were.I suppose Im hoping my paper assessment will be enough,.I ve had a bad experience with with an assessor when I had severe depression following the death of my partner Thanks in advance x

Hi Lauren
The majority of claimants are given a telephone assessment. When you filled out your form, you could have put in a request for a paper-based assessment. The DWP do not always agree to one. If you didn't already request one - if you receive a letter for one - you can put in an appeal to have a paper-based assessment. They may or may not agree to this. Your chances of having a paper-based assessment can be improved if you have a letter from a GP that states that a telephone assessment would cause you "overwhelming psychological distress."
You've already had a bad experience with an assessor. The bottom line is some claimants like you have a bad experience and there are many horror stories. Some people do have a good experience, but you are less likely to hear about it. It shouldn't be the case, but unfortunately it is the luck of the draw.
