Claimant commitment with Fit Note (awaiting WCA assessment) was created by Anne
Hi
I support someone but I’m not her benefits appointee (she doesn’t have one).
She has her WCA next week. She should end up in the support group.
She has fit notes.
On 4th Feb her journal said she had to sign a new claimant commitment for WRA by today or she risked not being paid her UC. I helped her message her job coach to ask what to do as she isn’t able to do WRA. Her job coach’s journal response was that it’s been changed because her WCA is coming up and they can discuss at next appointment which is next week. Job coach hasn’t responded today.
Question 1: if she should be in support group, should she sign the new claimant commitment when she and I know she can’t fulfil it? Or is it a trick so they can say ‘well she signed that so she doesn’t need to be in the support group’?
Question 2: how does she make sure she doesn’t get her UC stopped if she doesn’t sign the new commitment today?
[she has a fit note so isn’t actually being asked to do what the claimant commitment says]

Hi Anne
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
In order to receive UC it is necessary to meet conditionality requirements, which will be determined by an individual’s capability and circumstances. It is these work-related requirements that will be recorded in a ‘claimant commitment’. The claimant commitment will also set out the consequences if these requirements are not met.
UC has four sets of conditionality requirements according to individual capability and circumstances.
no work-related requirements
work-focused interview requirement only
work preparation requirement
all work-related requirements
If the claimant commitment is not accepted, the claim will be closed.
We cannot answer your question as it would depend on what is in the claimant commitment, each claimant commitment is tailored to the individual claiming UC.
