Hi, have just seen this:
disabilitybenefitswithoutthefight.com/
There is a map where you can enter your postcode to see how many people appealed a benefit decision in your local area. It then gives the number in your region and the cost of these. If Scope have their figures right, taking the East Midlands Region for an example this was 23,264 people. The cost of East Mids tribunals was £3,918,458 [say £3.9m]. This means each one only cost under £170. While this seems little each but a big total, just look at it from DWP's angle. Even though 74% won, about 6,049 people lost. So if the ones who had lost would have each won just a minimum £23.70 per week PIP for 2 years, DWP have "saved" £14.9 million minimum. £14.9m - £3.9m spent fighting claimants = £11m.So that's £11 m more for the government to spend on other things/take less tax off certain companies etc just in the East Mids.
Somebody check my workings I'm reeling a bit!
I think this explains the aggressive attitude that makes us all sick [literally!] . And to me, while those figures are just for one region, what a context for HS2 costing not millions but billions or rubbish PPE ditto.
