Hi I recently left my permitted work due to not being supported to work from home during mental health episode. My doctor had offered to do a fit not and my employer was aware of this but nonetheless sent me out to meet new clients. This contributed to my mental health decline and I handed on my notice. My last day is 2nd March and I get my payslip and p45 at end of month. When do I have to inform esa and what will happen to my claim please? Do I inform them within a month of last payslip or last day? Its esa old style long term.

Hi Sassy

You must let the DWP know about any changes in your circumstances, such as changes to your wages, hours or who you work for. I would let DWP once you have received your last payslip, they may ask you why you have stopped, if they do all you need to say is that it affected your mental health.

We do have a 7 page guide on permitted work: Permitted work and working while on universal credit due to sickness or disability. A guide to doing permitted work whilst claiming ESA, universal credit or incapacity benefit.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/esa, it is the second link down.
