the wait between telephone assessment & decision was created by prefer not to say
I had my assessment in January & text message saying 'As a guide you should hear from us within 8 weeks'.
Which is around now. How long should I wait before chasing up?

It can seem like ages and stressful waiting for news from your claim,
Hopefully it wont be to much longer for you you could always give the dwp a phone call and check what stage your claim is at.
I hope you hear some news soon

Dear prefer no to say [btw love that handle!], please may I suggest that immediately you phone a request for the PA4 assessment report to see what they wrote. If you don't like it and still have not had the decision, you might if quick. usefully write to 'The Decision Maker' coldly correcting all main lies, significant omissions or twistings, referencing your evidence and if necessary other sources. Eg assessor tried to say our daughter's Tramadol was for moderate pain only, so I put in the NHS page that says it is for severe pain.
If when you call they refuse, just politely end call and try again, you are entitled to it straight away on a PIP assessment.
Best wishes,
Denby

Hi prefer not to say

As denby has stated, you can request a copy of the assessors report 48 hrs after your assessment, the assessors report is called a PA4. Once you get the report go through it with a highlighter highlighting any errors.

There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said in the report.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide, half way down the page for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

Make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

In the meantime you might want to contact the DWP and ask them to send you a copy of the assessors report which I believe is a PA4

It will give you an inclination of what information has been passed to the Decision Maker and give you an opportunity to address any issues before a final decision is made

Thanks
I will chase up today if I get a chance.

I do feel a lot of the questions was skimmed through. The usual feeling of being coerced into giving an answer or not probed enough into the questions to highlight my particular issues.
Even trying to stop & explain my issue doing x, y, z task in depth, I got the feeling the assessor just tried to move on as quickly as possible without listening. I got the feeling they had made their mind up about my score before even calling.
My whole telephone interview was done in 20 minutes! I know it was Capita who done the interview.
