PIP and Terminal Cancer was created by Helen Gregory
Can anyone guide me towards something that might help me apply for PIP please?
Backstory is that I was given a diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer in 2019, tumour was removed with total hysterectomy. MRI scans showed that It had travelled to my lung, liver and small bowel. I had to give up work and Macmillan welfare rights helped me claim PIP and ESA as I had been given a DS1500(not expected to live longer than 6 months notification). After extensive surgery and chemo my cancer has been “put to sleep” and three years later (almost) I am “living” with cancer. It is a given that my cancer will “wake up” at some point and then I will be back on more
Extensive chemo.
My PIP renewal came up and after phoning DWP was told to get another DS1500 for it to be continued. The hospital will not provide me with a DS 1500 at this time because they have no idea now how long I will be “living” with Cancer! Sooooo now I have to start a new claim for PIP.
I can find no guidance as to how I should complete the PIP form as a person “living with Cancer”. I have been affected both mentally and physically since my diagnosis but not really sure how I should word all of that in reference to the Cancer.
Can anyone shed any light as to whether there is any specific guidance for my situation please?
Xx

Hi Helen

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Do you know that your personal details are showing. How to change your details

Before I answer your question, a DS 1500 only covers the Daily living component of PIP, did you apply for the mobility component of PIP?

We do have a very good guide to help claimants apply for PIP claims and reviews.
Guide to PIP claims and reviews

PIP is not awarded because of the condition but rather the limitations that result and prevent a claimant from completing a range of everyday activities.

You need to show that you are affected for the majority of the time. So are you in pain for four out of seven days and what does that pain affect you from doing? Does it affect your mobility or your ability to cook, dress yourself etc.

If you have any further questions then please come back to the forum.
