Blue Badge and PIP was created by davis
Hi
I received 8 points so was eligible for blue badge They did not want to give it to me stating i had to be assessed I explained the rules and got it I only got it for about 9 months they are telling me that because my PIP is running out that i can not renew the Blue badge saying that it is tied to PIP and i would have to have pip for 3 years before i can apply for another one. Am a little confused as they issued this one with only 9 months to go as the back log i lost a few years before i got tended to.
My questions

If you are awarded the 8 points for PIP does the Badge only lasts as long as the PIP even if PIP have not contacted you about renewing or sending out a has anything changed form
I filled this form out end of last year when they said they were extending PIP and we would not get a PIP form well 2 weeks later i received the form named above and do not really know whats going on so if anyone knows about the badge and what happens now with PIP

Hi davis

Blue Badge is not dependant upon you receiving mobility component of PIP: www.gov.uk/blue-badge-scheme-information-council

Each local authority will be different, so it will depend on where you live.

You’ll be able to get a Blue Badge automatically if you:
* get the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
* get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and scored 8 points or more in the ‘moving around’ activity (check your decision letter if you’re not sure)
* get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and scored 10 points for Descriptor E under the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity (check your decision letter)
* are registered blind (severely sight impaired)
* get a War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement
* received a lump sum payment as part of the Armed Forces Compensation scheme and have a permanent and substantial disability that affects your walking.

If you’re not automatically eligible you may be able to get a Blue Badge in certain circumstances. For example, if:

* you can’t walk at all, or you can’t walk without help from someone else or using mobility aids
* you have a terminal illness, which means you can’t walk or find walking very difficult and have a DS1500 form
* you have a severe disability in both arms which means you have considerable difficulty operating parking meters
* you are always a significant risk to yourself or other people when you’re near vehicles, in traffic or car parks
* you often become extremely anxious or fearful of public or open spaces.

Hi davis,
To add to Gary's response - If you get sufficient points for PIP mobility then all you need do is tick the box on the Blue Badge form and won't have to answer any more questions.
Otherwise you have to complete the whole form and may need a doctor's report. It is a bit tedious but as Gary says Blue Badge is not dependent on PIP, and can in fact be awarded on several grounds totally separate to PIP.
I hope this helps.

Hi Davis,

I had the same problem, I believe that basically what it means is:-

If you are relying on PIP to get access to a blue badge i.e 8 points on moving around, you can apply under pip but will only get the badge for the amount of time your PIP award has left to run. you can then re-apply under PIP when and if you get the same points at renewal.

If you want to apply for a blue badge for a longer time then you must apply by filling out the form, supplying medical evidence and possibly attending an assesment

It depends on how much you want to do, obviously applying on PIP points is much easier but only you can decide which route to take.

Hope that makes sense
