Universal credit and full time Education.

Hi all

Feeling really worried and hoping someone can advise me please.

Almost 19yr old (19 in March) is currently in full time education at college, and has just been approved to do another course in September - Non advanced education.
She is Autistic, has Tourettes, severe OCD - along with Intrusive thoughts, anxiety and learning difficulties.
She has a EHCP.
She is not capable of work due to all of the above.
She receives PIP at enhanced for both elements.
I claim UC as a full time carer as I also care full time for another daughter with complex needs.
I have just read that from August the 31st following her 19th birthday, the child elements of UC (including the disabled element) will stop.
I have also read that because she is in full time education, we cannot claim UC for her. And also newly introduced legislation means we cannot claim new style ESA to open the door for a Work Capability Assessment.
Is all of the above correct? And if so, is there something else we can claim?
The prospect of losing £685 a month in this current climate fills me with absolute dread!
Thank you so much in advance

Hi LisaE

Unfortunately you are correct in what you say, your question is also outside the remit of the forum.

I don't know if you have power of attorney/ appointee but you may want to contact Student Union for help as your daughter may be eligible for a student bursary, you may also want to contact your local Welfare Rights Organisation who can take all your circumstances into consideration; You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk
