Hi ELIZABETH1960,
Potentially no difference.
A renewal takes place when a claim period is due to expire; this might be anything from a year before the end. (The idea being that it may take a while for you to complete the form, be assessed and get a decision all done, so you need enough time allowed.)
A review can be conducted at any time, during an award. Occasionally DWP decide to review a case, either on a whim, or because the previous devision was say a 3 Yr award to be reviewed after 2 yrs. Obviously if you report a change in circumstances this could instigate a review, or if DWP suspect fraud.
That said, the effect is likely to be the same, ie fill out a form, sending in all your evidence, have assessment, unless you are lucky enough not to need one, and await the decision!
I hope this helps.

Thank you for responding to my question.
I was transferred from DLA to PIP in 2018 following assessment F/F.....
I was awarded 3 yrs, February 2021 being the date for review/renewal.
However, because of covid I received a letter last year extending my original award time to November 2022.
In January this year 2022 I received a review form to complete and return.
I requested extra time to complete form, this was granted..
Since completing my first pip form my longterm health conditions have deteriorated, the likelihood of them improving is unlikely
On top of this I have undergone several surgical interventions, including total hip replacements in the last 3 yrs.
Since surgeries I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and more recently having a neurological disorder diagnosis...
I am hoping that I’m not going to have to fight.
The stress will only serve to exacerbate my health issues.

Hi ELIZABETH1960

Make sure you send your form off by registered post, photo copy any supporting documents , keep the originals.

Once you send the forms off contact DWP to check that they have received it for peace of mind.

Check our guides to help you with the assessment, it will give you a list of questions that you may be asked; guides-for-claimants/pip

If you have any further questions please come back to the forum.

Hi ELIZABETH1960,

I get the feeling that the word 'renewal' can lull you into a false sense of security. After all, the word in itself impies that it's a straight forward process, which it certainly is not.

LL26 is perfectly right when saying there is no difference.

Regards,

Phrank.

Thank you Gary, Yes all done, review form posted using recorded signed for.
I did track & check posting reference and yes it has been received and signed for the other end.
I didn’t think it necessary to phone and check as well as I have documentation proof from tracking reference number...
