We are always advised to send correspondence to the DWP etc by recorded delivery, so that we have some recourse if they manage to lose it. Unfortunately, that may no longer be possible.

Recently I have had UC forms to submit to "Freepost UC Universal Credit Full service". Just that, with no post code. I rang the UC helpline and they confirmed that this was correct, and they couldn't give me a post code.

So when I've taken UC correspondence to my local post office, on two occasions they said they couldn't send it recorded delivery because that service requires a post code. After some head-scratching, they did give me a receipt for proof of posting, but of course that isn't the same as recording when and if the DWP actually did receive my letters.

I don't know whether this situation was deliberately engineered by the DWP or just an unforeseen consequence, but it does seem to disempower claimants. Does anyone else have a solution for this?

Best wishes, Mark

Hi 00Mark

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

We have had queries from other forum members on the same issue. You did the right thing, get proof of posting which does not cost you anything.

You also need to make sure you take a copy of everything you sent so that if it does go missing you will be able to send a copy. I would give it 3 - 4 days before contacting DWP to check that they have received your mail.
