DLA to PIP Success! was created by pinkjelly5
I'd just like to thank everyone here for their help and information. As my son turned 16 we had the daunting task of changing his DLA to PIP. He had started college so had no SENCO, was being assessed again by Neurodevelopemental team, had not seen his GP for years and was receiving no therapies or treatments for his mental health but with help from Benefit and Work we managed to get an award of enhanced care and standard mobility for 9 years. First we followed the advice of me becoming his advocate to complete forms, answer questions etc then we used guidelines to complete forms honestly (using typical and worst case scenarios). I was able to do telephone assessment without embarrassing or undermining my son's confidence. Nothing worried me more than my son's reaction to the questions and answers about his capabilities so it was great that I could do the assessment for him. No teenager wants to admit that they can't cope or struggle with day to day things. It's a huge issue as it's too much responsibility placed on 16 year olds with disabilities. Parents/carers often don't realise they can act for them. It's a nightmare for full grown adults let alone 16 year old kids. Anyway many thanks and I would recommend this site to anyone facing the gauntlet that is DWP/Benefits claims.

Hi pinkjelly5

That is really terrific news, well done and congratulations on getting the award for your son, and for 9 years.

Thank you for your post, I know it will help and give encouragement to other forum members, we are pleased that you found the guides useful.

The back office do a very good job in keeping the guides up to date on a regular basis.

I am tagging my reply so that the back office also get to read your encouraging post.
