PIP - MR? was created by Tina
Hi
I have recently been awarded PIP as I suffer from Arthritis lower back, tinnitus/hearing loss for which I'm registered disabled. I was awarded the following -
2 points for shower seat.
8 points for communicating.
10 points for planning and following a journey.
Obviously very pleased with this as I can now come of Universal Credit. My query is I felt I should have had an award for mixing with other people, as although I wear 2 hearing aids, I will only go out accompanied with another person as there are still lots of occassions when I can't hear, I made plently of references to this on the PiP claim form. Just wonder if it is worth challenging this?
Any advice would be greatly received.
Thank you.

Hi Tina

I can't tell you whether or not you should put in for a mandatory reconsideration and ask them to look at your claim again, nor am I an assessor.. From what you say your hearing loss prevents you from being able to mix with other people alone and so it does seem surprising that you were not awarded for this question.

The first thing I would do (if you haven't already) is call the DWP and ask for your assessor's report - this is a PA4. This will give you more details about what the assessor noted for the particular question and help make your argument stronger. i would also look in detail at our Guide to PIP claims and reviews and see if you answered that question with enough specific information and where you might need to emphasise your difficulties even further. benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip

People sometimes ask if there is a risk to putting in for an MR on their current award. Most MR's land up without an award being changed, but many of our members have successfully challenged an award at this stage. Is there ever a decrease by challenging - I have only ever known this to happen twice and they were exceptional cases.

If you have any further questions come back and ask.

Hi Tina, just a query, why would you come off UC just because you have gained PIP? they aren't mutually exclusive, you can have PIP even if you are a millionaire.
Best, Denby
