Hello all

Firstly I would like to say what an amazing site this is and you all are invaluable to us. Totally respect each one of you xx

I have been on DLA, ESA, HB, CT for the last 26 years and CTC, CB and my son is on PIP plus i'm his carer, for the last 19 years of my sons life. We have moved to a different county as my son is autistic and has mental health issues including having suicidal issues. We moved so I can save my son from getting worse as we are now back in an area we both have our hearts in. We only moved away because my mental health got worse. I have Bi-polar and other issue's, and I am feeling very mixed up in the head (my mood is all over the place) at the moment, due to the new UC.
Can someone please explain anything that makes sense to me. We have only been here just over a month.

Since then my DLA has remained the same (I know it will get changed to PIP one day)

My ESA NI contribution has been reduced by almost half. I did get Extra money for being severely disabled, being a carer, disability income guarantee and support group. Now it has gone to support group only with contribution based ESA. My carer has gone although I'm still my son's carer. After calling the carer allowance department they told me to make a new claim for this, which I have done online.

CTC has been stopped and they say I owe them £500.

CB is still being paid monthly. My son turned 19 in march and is going to college.

HB has gone to UC which is paid as Housing: they have said there are two people on the Tenancy Agreement. (I put my son on there to teach him about a Tenancy and if anything happened to me he was not made homeless. We rent private.) So they have paid me my share of the rent. Children, Disabled Child and limited capability for work and work-related activity. They have deducted almost £500 for me claiming ESA.

My work coach is going to make contact with me by the 11th as the lady who spoke to me has left a note on my journal for them to make contact.

I got told by the UC lady that my son can put a claim in for UC for himself and the housing will pay his share of the rent. I told her the reason he was on the tenancy. She is looking into it. I also said where is the guarantee protection payment where I won't be worse off that I've herd about. She said she knows nothing about this and will look into it as well. Am I right about this part?

I spent the whole telephone conversation in tears and my head was spinning so much.

This is all new to me and I don't deal well with changes. This is affecting my mental health severely and I will end up back in the system where I have just been discharged from a month before we moved.

I hated the change from incapacity benefit and income support to ESA years ago when they started doing that and I'm now starting to feel the same all over again.

I hope someone can make sense of this as I know how Knowledgeable you all are.

I thank you all in advance for any information/advise

Kind Regards

Natty

Hi nattykt07

Thank you for your post, you have so much going on and it is quite complex. I would recommend that you seek help from your local welfare Rights Organisation who can take all your circumstances into consideration to give you the correct information.

From your post I would assume that you were in receipt of both IR ESA and CB ESA which was why you received additional premiums with your IR ESA, as you do not receive disability premiums with CB ESA.

You do need to seek guidance; You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Gary

Hello Gary and thank you for your response

Yes i have just found out that i was getting both IR ESA and CB ESA and have now lost the IR ESA. The UC have deducted my CB ESA from my total UC, as i still get it but they have deducted more then what i get. So basically they give it to me then take it away. They never paid me for being a carer and transition protection, which they have now corrected. They are looking into the housing and will question why i have 3 rooms in private rental. They asked me yesterday as to why i have spare room. Told them its so my son and myself have a space to go to when we are both in need of space re our outburst that can happen. He has said the decision maker is looking at this and will let me know. Im still questioning a few things with them and will update more once they let me know. I will get in touch with welfare rights as well as this is all messing with my head. thank you again and i will keep you informed.
Kind regards
Natty

Hi nattykt07

Thank you for your post.

You are correct, most benefits, what you get in one hand you loose in the other, apart from PIP, PIP is a win win.

In regards to the spare room, I find that if you can get a doctors letter explaining why you need a spare room , it should make it easier for you so that you are not penalised. Some claimants have panic rooms which used to cause problems but after a recent Court decision this is no longer a issue.

if you do have problems then seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk
