DLA to PIP was created by Shol
Received a letter from Capita today with a telephone assessment appointment date. I am my daughter’s official Appointee. She is 16 and was invited to apply for PIP after being in receipt of DLA for several years due to autism. Does she need to miss school and be home for the assessment? She struggles to talk with anxiety and understand with ASD. I will struggle discussing her difficulties in front of her as she is very sensitive and will also keep trying to distract me. Their letter contains the following paragraph which I find a confusing/contradictory so unsure if she should have to be there or not.
“You and the person who acts on your behalf (or somebody nominated by them) should both be at the telephone appointment. We will call the person who acts on your behalf (or somebody nominated by them) first. If you cannot be with them in person, we can add you to the telephone call. If only the person who acts on your behalf (or somebody nominated by them) is present, the assessment can still go ahead.”
Any advice much appreciated. Thank you

The DWP love to talk in riddles. If you don't understand something how can you query it?
In short, I think it says that, No your daughter does not have to be there. You are her appointee and speak on her behalf.
I am sure one of the Mods will correct me if I have got it wrong.

Hi Shol
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.
Welcome to Benefits and Work
I would contact both DWP and Capita and ask the question, when you say that you are your daughters Official Appointee, was this done via the Court or did you contact DWP to become an Appointee for DLA claim?
Check out the link below, I have also included a link to guidance on Appointee which you may find useful.
