Questions about a new PIP Claim was created by Waxwing
Hello
The person who I am helping with his claim (brother) who had to goto tribunal and failed on his last claim has FINALLY made his new claim last week with a bit of encouragement. He is very nervous and anxious about trying again but this time we have a bit better knowledge of what PIP is about thanks to your guides and the great advice we have recieved o this forum.
I have a few question:-
1.) On Moving Around would it be wise to say that his mobility (walking) problems have an affect on his daily living activities (increased pain and discomfort) so linking the mobility activity with the daily living activity? Would that go against any of the decriptors or activities in the daily living section if he did this?
2.) He has requested the GP Receptionist to put a note on his records that if the DWP or Assesment Agency contact the GP that they should contact my brother and talk with him before filling out any medical report forms. Is this a bad idea and would this put his claim at any risk? The problem is he see's different GPs each time he has to make an appointment and he does not see a GP who is familiar with his condition and his daily living needs.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi Waxwing,
I am glad that you have managed to persuade your brother to reapply. He is lucky to have your help.
When I write forms or draft MR letters I try and tell a cohesive story. If someone has poor mobility it is likely that they will have difficulties getting in and out of the bath, getting dressed etc. I suspect that anyone who can't walk say 20 or 30m will be compromised in their ability to to these activities. Unless there is a cogent reason for there being a disparity across the activities, the form should paint the picture of a slow mover, who can't bend to put on shoes etc. If eg shoes are difficult but putting them on can fulfil all criteria ie safety, acceptable standard, repetition and reasonable time then say eg ' although I struggle to bend to put on trousers and shoes I can manage to do this in a reasonable time, so would not qualify for points...' This still shows difficulties across all relevant sections.
I don't see that there is a problem leaving a note on the GP file. It may well be that your brother could then make an appointment with the doctor filling in the GP form. However DWP are contacting GPS less and less. It used to be routine, but because it costs, it is no longer done.
Maybe a better approach is to get a GP appointment anyway, and discuss with that GP how worried your brother is etc and could that GP write a letter confirming that your brother can't perform PIP activities. If you book an appointment presumably you can choose which GP you see. Pick the most helpful one.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.
