DLA was created by francis
Dear Moderators,
I am receiving DLA at high rate mobility & low rate care, this was an indefinite award, a very long time ago, unfortunately, my walking abilities are now much worse than when I was awarded DLA & out of interest, I attended a tribunal, for that award.
I am 66 in early May this year, so I assume? that I will get a contact letter from the DWP concerning PIP? or...
I value your advice, my question is, do I wait until contact by the DWP ref PIP & hope that they keep paying my award (I understand that the DWP can reclaim monies) or do I await the DWP to make contact?
Therefore, what is your advice?
Yours sincerely, Francis.

Hi Francis
You don't have to do anything. At some point, the DWP will write to you about moving across to PIP. Covid has meant that this process has been delayed.

I was in a similar situation last year. I was 66 in October and had been waiting for the PIP letter but it didn't come, As it got nearer to my birthday , I decided to ring them and ask for the PIP 1 form as I understood from this forum that you cannot claim PIP mobility after 66. Your DLA will carry on until you receive PIP. I had my telephone assessment in March and an waiting for the outcome.

Hi Rambling Ted
Once you reach state pension age then you will not be able to get a higher rate of PIP or DLA mobility than what you are already receiving.
If your mobility condition has deteriorated then you should contact DWP and report a change of circumstances before you reach state pension age ...... but you need to be certain that you meet the criteria.
If you have already had an assessment and waiting for a decision then you will still be entitled to the mobility component, if you have to go down the MR route or appeal you can still be entitled to the mobility component as you started the journey before you reached State Pension age.

Dear moderators,
Thanks for your response.
As stated, I am 66 in early May, I have not received any contact from the DWP concerning DLA to PIP?
I have tried phoning, but have had the runaround.
Therefore, should I just apply for PIP now?
Yours sincerely, Francis.

Hi francis
We cannot answer your question as it would depend on a number of factors such as do you receive high rate mobility, if not, has your mobility deteriorated since you were last assessed.
We would advise you to seek advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation who can take all your circumstances into consideration; advicelocal.uk .
