It is up to you whether you initiate the transfer from DLA to PIP yourself, at some time the DWP will contact you to start this process.

You can still be transferred once you reach State Pension Age and you can still receive a full Mobility award as the transfer legislation specifically allows this.

Be aware the Mobility criteria for PIP are far more strict than that for DLA.

Hi Gary or moderators,
Thanks for your response. Yes I receive high rate mobility & low rate care, my walking has unfortunately, deteriorated, since my DLA award.
Long story short, apart from RA & osteo arthritis, I need a FULL KNEE replacement, potential 2.
The orthopedic surgeon will not carry this out due to heart problems, therefore I am somewhat in limbo.
The phone advice from the DWP, wait until you get the PIP letter? very non committal (What if it does not arrive)I am 66 in early May, therefore I do not want to miss the boat due to my age, your advice is very much appreciated.
Yours sincerely, Francis.

Hi francis

If you believe that your circumstances have changed for the worse and that you stand a good chance of being awarded the enhanced mobility then contact PIP for a change of circumstances, you want want to also put the request in writing and send it by recorded delivery.

If you put in your request before you reach state pension age then you don't need to worry about time limits, if you do not agree with the outcome you can put in for a MR and then appeal if necessary.

Not a Mod but I would say go for the PIP ASAP. The claim can be dealt with after you pass pension age as I understand it as long as you have got the application in before your birthday and can prove they received it [1st Class or Next Day Tracked ideally]. That can take a few days so you must act very swiftly. Then swot every page in the Guides about the essential differences between the DLA system and the PIP system and make sure you can evidence the need for Enhanced Mobility PIP as well as Enhanced Daily Living to continue from your DLA.
I would start keeping a thorough diary using the templates/examples in the Guide as it is evidence they take more seriously than you might think.

Apologies to Mods if any of the above is incorrect please remove it or delete post.
Best wishes,
Denby
