PIP Assessment text from Capita but no DWP letter - URGENT was created by Silverflower
Hi,
I received a text from Capita (I have never given dip etc my mobile number but somehow they have it). this morning reminding me that my pip assessment is on Tuesday 10th may in Cardiff, Windsor road.
I gave my pip renewal form in last November, received a text 23rd match this year thanking me for it and saying they may need me to attend a consultation with a health professional before they make a decision and they'll contact me again if they do.
I have heard nothing whatsoever until this text today from Capita reminding me of my pip assessment next week. But I have never received any letter about an assessment next week in the first place.
My PA and I will contact dwp tomorrow to find out what the capita text is (I assume this is the best thing to do?). Am I within my rights to say I cannot attend next Tuesday, if the appointment exists? Due to my health condition a week's notice puts too much strain on me (also I am worse than usual anyway as i'm still recovering from vomiting collapse and 2 spend ankles which happened end of march). I havent had a weeks notice anyway as I have had no letter just this capita text reminder. Plus I havent gone in to any building for any length of time since march 2020. I've been only meeting people outside and sheilding anyway. The last assessment pip did a few years ago, they came to my home.
I'd be grateful if someone could answer as quickly as possible as id like to know where I stand before speaking to the dwp.
Also what is the situation around recording now? can I do it on my phone? can I ask pip to record it to? last time I had to record it myself on tape recorders and cassette tapes.
many thanks
juliette

Hi Juliette
You should be given 7 days notice of an assessment - so you can cancel this. Make sure that you say that it is because you have not been given any prior information of an assessment taking place. I would also put in an appeal and ask for a paper-based or telephone assessment. You can find details about this on page 105 of the guide to PIP claims and Reviews. (first one in list). benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip

Many thanks Bis for confirmation of that. I will cancel it. And also read the info. I was going to ring dwp about all this, cancelling the appointment and requesting a review as I have no numbers for capita and its the dwp who said in a text they would contact me if they needed me to see a health professional they would contact me etc. Is the dwp who I should contact? thanks

Hi Silverflower
As you have only been sent a text - you can't contact Capita - so get onto the DWP first thing. I hope you manage to sort it out. Definitely push for a change of assessment. Good luck

Hi Silverflower, just about the recording: Both and. Ie ask them to record it but also do it yourself however you like but do not mention it to them as they take exception, even though it is totally legal for your own use. Don't forget 48 hours after the assessment [or when they text if sooner] call for the PA4, which you are entitled to.
Best wishes,
Denby
