Will hosting a Ukrainian family affect my benefits?

Like many, I have been struck by the plight of Ukrainians and would like to offer my spare room to accommodate a refugee family. Now, I can't afford to do this without applying for the Government grant of £300 (£350?) /month. But will the DWP take away my income related ESA (I get the max) which will also see me lose all related concessions, thus making my host offer untenable? Surely, the Government's cash offering is to pay for the extra costs incurred by the host in taking the family in? I pay no council tax at the moment but I expect that will change, adding £100+ per month to my outgoings, along with extras for increased use of services, higher insurance etc, all before I've found the wherewithal to feed them. All advice gratefully received. Thank you.

I would consider the reality of having a group of people you don’t know in your home for 3-5 years. This may well be the reality. And a whole family in one room does not seem feasible. The scheme has been cobbled together and you really need to look into this carefully.

This should help them a bit survive the infamous 5-week wait for UC.
