Hi there, I have mentioned in a previous post that I have my phone assessment on the 9th of this month for my pip claim. I feel extremely anxious about it to the point where I can't sleep because I am worried about it. My mental health isn't at its best at the moment. During the assessment are there any words/terminologies that I should use that will give me the best possibilities for the outcome of my assessment ? any advice or suggestions id be extremely grateful. Also for the mobility part of pip, physically I don't really have any impairments per se apart from a bad back my issues are with my mental health on a good day I have no problem leaving the house but on a bad day my mental health absolutely paralyzes me, this can be for hours, days weeks, months at a time but with each episode, I don't know how long it's going to last ..... when it comes to that question in the assessment is there a better way of me explaining this? I've had two previous assessments and when asked the question , i answer it in the way i have just said but I don't feel like the assessor understands what I mean as on the first assessment I was given 0 points and on the second I was given 4 points. Again any advice suggestions i would be grateful

Kind Regards
Robert

Hi robert1111

We hear from many members who get nervous prior to an assessment which is good, do not take extra medication to help you cope as this will go against you, be yourself.

- Write yourself a bullet point list of any particular points you want to get over, so you have it by you during the assessment, tick them as you cover them during the assessment.
- have paper and pens to hand to make any notes such as the assessors name, date, time
- make sure you are seated in a comfortable chair, you are going to be there a while and at table to make notes
- if you can't hear or understand what is being asked then ask them to repeat the question
- don’t let the assessor rush you and get you flustered.
- don't forget to have a glass of water if needed so you don't get a dry throat and lose your voice!

You can record the assessment for your own use but don't let the assessor know as they may cut the assessment short.

Don't forget to contact DWP 48 hours after the assessment and ask for a copy of the assessors report called PA4.

Hi Robert111

Glad to hear that your assessment is over. The point of asking for the assessment report (PA4) - is so you can learn what the assessor thought of your claim before the report is passed to the Decision Maker. Sometimes claimants disagree with points in the report and they want to contact the Decision Maker about it. There is only a small window of time to do this and as it is not a set time, it's possible the decision is made and the award letter sent out before a claimant can object. In which case - claimants have to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration. If this happens the PA4 is a key piece of information because claimants know what it is they have to object to in detail and this is why we advise people to get hold of the report as soon as possible.
