Will I have assessments for both UC & ESA? was created by DavroT
I have been on LT sick from work (NHS) for around 13 months now and I applied for both UC and ESA at the end of March at the advice of a friend who works at the jobcentre. I already receive PIP, enhanced and standard for DL and mobility.
My claim for UC is seemingly moving a bit faster though and I've already completed and sent off my form for UC. And while I've received my first payments (assessment rate) for both, I've not yet received the work capability form for ESA.
So my question is: if I am successful in my claim for UC and placed in LCWRA group, will I also be required to undergo an assessment for ESA too? I'm aware that they're different, but considering that both forms appear to be identical for both it's becoming a bit confusing.

Hi DavroT
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
New Style ESA is a Contribution Based benefit and is not means tested with the exception of pension income which can reduce the amount that you receive.
The Income Related benefit that goes with NS ESA is Universal Credit.
You are not able to make a new claim for legacy ESA IR or CB.
You now have to apply for New Style ESA if you have enough NI contributions.
UC is an online benefit claim, some claimants can apply via the phone if they are unable to access a computer.
The answer to your question is no, you only need to complete one WCA, depending on your situation you maybe able to claim NS ESA and UC if you need help with your HE and LCWRA.
I would advise you to contact your local Welfare Rights organisation; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk
