PIP claimant receiving phonecall to go over things isn't a telephone assessment

Hi everyone,

Hope you can help us with what we might expect. My partners friend is a full time Uni student. He had applied for PIP before & scored zero points. Due to stress they never followed up on a mandatory reconsideration. They have ADHD and PTSD and is waiting for further assessment for more behavioural and learning disabilities. We tried guiding him through the PIP form process this time but we're worried they didn't include enough info again. Even after talking to their mentor. They sent the form in again and after just a week received a call saying they wanted to set up a zoom meeting to discuss his claim but told it wasn't a telephone assessment. I've never heard of anything like this and was looking for some advice. We're hoping my partner can be on the call and wondered what we should be wary of? I'm worried they're trying to catch him out as it were. My partners friend tends to ramble under stress and has a hard time focusing and worry this might again hurt his claim. We're trying to talk with him before the call this week and wondered what sort of questions are they most likely to ask and what should we help prepare him for?

Hi acaitens

I can understand why you're concerned - I would be too. I honestly can't tell you what they will ask, because they are saying it's not an assessment. I hope someone is able to be on the call with him. If someone can, it should be made clear to the caller, that he is not alone. Make sure that the person is clear, what the call is about and what is going to happen to his claim when the call is over. Make sure you know who the person is (eg are they a medical person, or admin). I would record the call, if you're able to - but don't tell them that you are doing it or they may end the call. There is nothing illegal about recording a call in your own home.

I appreciate the response. We'll definitely make sure we make a recording and try and make sure we get all the pertinent details. We were just so confused about the speed of response and the claim that this isn't an assessment. My partner is going to go over their form today with them and we're using the guide on the site and the potential questions to try and help prepare them for this. Hopefully it all goes well.
