ESA 6. Communicating –speaking, writing and typing & 7. Communicating –hearing was created by CLINTIAN
Hi, my son suffers with A.S.D. Autism spectrum disorder / social anxiety etc, in the help guides it says - PIP Q9 Talking, listening and understanding (Activity 7) “It is also relevant to people who do not have hearing difficulties but who have verbal communication difficulties due to their mental health, for example, stress, anxiety or schizophrenia”.
can you clarify if my son’s condition is also relevant and worth completing in ESA 6. Communicating – speaking, writing and typing & 7. Communicating – hearing and reading or is this only for physical and not mental health conditions? Thank you

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi BODGE1
It is hard to answer you question as ASD varies from claimant to claimant. B&W has produced a chart showing the degree of overlap between UC/ESA and PIP descriptors.
There is a good similarity between PIP and ESA but still major differences.
You may want to contact National Autistic Society; www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do

ESA and UC are different from PIP in that the Descriptors are further limited to the underlying cause of the limitations.
Questions 1-10 can only score if the underlying condition is a physical one and 11-17 if it is a mental health one.
