Do I need to renew appointee status for new PIP claim/review?

Hello, I applied to be my son's appointee when he was 16 and first applied for PIP. Do I have to somehow renew this status for his review or will it carry on? I noticed on his original assessor's report that the HP has marked "no" as to whether the claimant may need additional support to comply with future processes. This is wrong and I'm worried it will affect how they deal with us at any assessments.
Thanks

Hi ela67

Yes, you may have to re-apply to become your son's appointee as your son has gone from DLA to PIP; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/forum/10-dla-e...-claim-review#270891

You need to contact the PIP new claims line: 0800 917 2222.

Thanks for the reply Gary, sorry my fault I don't think I was very clear.

I already have the appointee status from when my son moved from DLA to PIP a few years ago. Does this status continue until either myself or son request it to stop? Or does the fact the asssessor marked "no" to the question as to whether the claimant may need additional support to comply with future processes, mean I lose that status?

Thanks

Hi ela67

I posted the wrong link in my previous post, it should have been; www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits.

In answer to your question "does the fact the asssessor marked "no" to the question as to whether the claimant may need additional support to comply with future processes, mean I lose that status?" the answer is maybe. If what the assessor wrote is incorrect then use any supporting documents to counter the argument. Contact DWP and check if you are still your son's appointee.

If you click on the link above it will take you to the Gov website; if you applied to be an appointee when you son was in receipt of DLA then you may have to apply again when your son applies for PIP.

Your appointment can be stopped if:

~ you do not act properly under the terms of the appointment
~ the claimant is clearly able to manage their own benefits
~ you become incapable yourself - let DWP know immediately

I became my daughter’s appointee when she transferred from DLA to PIP at 16 and I’m still her appointee now at 22. Her PIP was reviewed last year and nothing was mentioned - all the paperwork was sent to me to complete on her behalf. Hope that helps.

Thanks Gary, the info in the link would seem to suggest I continue being his appointee unless certain criteria are not met. It also says the DWP will continue to monitor the appointee situation so I think it's reasonable to assume, given I haven't been contacted by them, that this status will remain. However, I agree it's best to probably contact them to check. My son is on Enhanced rate for both components so I hope that is an argument for remaining his appointee. Thanks again
