Do I need to renew appointee status for new PIP claim/review?

In answer to your question "does the fact the asssessor marked "no" to the question as to whether the claimant may need additional support to comply with future processes, mean I lose that status?" the answer is maybe. If what the assessor wrote is incorrect then use any supporting documents to counter the argument. Contact DWP and check if you are still your son's appointee.

If you click on the link above it will take you to the Gov website; if you applied to be an appointee when you son was in receipt of DLA then you may have to apply again when your son applies for PIP.

Your appointment can be stopped if:

~ you do not act properly under the terms of the appointment
~ the claimant is clearly able to manage their own benefits
~ you become incapable yourself - let DWP know immediately
