PIP new claim was created by Helen8440
Hi I've got Long Covid since March 2020 and struggling to function so decided to claim PIP using your Long Covid guides. I had telephone assessment on 16th May and after further call from health assessor with more mobility questions I got text Thurs last week to say report is in. Called and requested copy and received it Friday. Looks like I've got the enhanced mobility but only 7 points for daily living as the assessor has ticked 3a even though I clearly stated that I have memory loss and get muddled so had to get a dossett box and use alarm on mobile to be able to take meds as prescribed. The assessor has argued no evidence of cognitive impairment as I do not have a mental health practitioner involved! Please can you advise how I can challenge this do I need to wait for the decision first and hope the decision maker awards the point based on the info in the report that I need these aids?

Hi Helen8440

You have a small window to write to the decision-maker challenging the assessment report before the decision is made. However, with the volumes they are dealing with - it is impossible to say whether your letter will get looked at in time.

Look at the specific areas where you did not score points or enough points and say why you disagree. Cognitive impairment with no formal diagnosis is one of the most difficult things to argue for PIP. However, it's a weak argument for the assessor to say that you haven't got it because the mental health team are not involved. Re-iterate that you have to use the dosette box and alarms because of your condition and what would happen if you did not do this.
