Hi there, if you get enhanced rate for both parts of pip, do you automatically get paid the severe disability premium, or do you have to make a separate claim for it? also can this be backdated to when you were granted your award ?

Hi robert1111

That's a loaded question as it depends on a number of factors, you may also be entitled to claim EDP as well as SDP.

The SDP became payable from the first day that all three of the following applied.

1. You had an award of ESA and we’re receiving or were entitled to receive Income Related ESA or Pension Credit.

2. You had an award of PIP Daily Living

3. You met the criteria for payment of the SD Premium, namely that you lived alone or were considered to be living alone and no one receives Carers Allowance against your PIP award.

If you are entitled* to SDP, it will commence when your PIP Award date is. You will have to phone up ESA and tell them. They may send you a form to complete to confirm your entitlement*. Any monies ‘owed’ will be backdated to the PIP Award date.

Hi robert1111

Unfortunately you cannot get a SDP if you claim UC.

There are no disibility premiums if you claim UC. If you claim UC the only extra element you may be able to claim is LCWRA; www.entitledto.co.uk/help/universal_cred...apability_assessment
