MISTAKE ON UC CLAIM HOUSING OPTION was created by EM444
Morning All
Hope everyone Is well
Just wondering if anyone can help please.
Basically, when I initially claimed UC, I clicked on the wrong option for housing.
I put Supported Housing, by mistake, not Rented.
I was told that my UC payment, covered my Rent, so i didn't question it.
Only now that I have moved house, have I been made aware of getting housing support, towards my Rent.
I was never aware, that this existed, I thought that the UC payment, covered Rent costs.
I moved in November 2021
Is It something, they would look into ? As It was my mistake, I used my UC & PIP, to pay costs for Rent & Bills, at the time.
Thanks In Advance

Hi EM444
It is a normal mistake, if you clicked on the supported button then UC will assume that you are in receipt of Housing Benefit. Unfortunately unless you have a support plan then housing benefit department will inform you that you have to claim Housing Element.
UC payments do cover most housing costs but you have to ask for the housing element and give a breakdown of your rent and service charges if you have any.
I would ask for an any time review to try and get Housing Element from the start of your UC claim, I would have assumed your workcoach should have ask you when you first applied for UC about your rent, you may want to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk
I come across this situation on a weekly basis, you need to send your workcoach a message via your journal and explain your predicament, do you live in social housing or private rented?
If you live in social housing then UC will contact your social landlord via a gateway to confirm your rent details and service charge details, remember not all service charges are eligible some are classed as ineligible, these they will not pay.
