Mandatory reconsideration was created by Caz1
Hi
I have been getting pip since 2016, I did get standard for both

I then had an assessment in 2018, I was awarded the same until 2021, this was extended to 2023 because of the pandemic

In September last year my mobility was worse, I don’t have any cartilage I both my knees and severe osteoarthritis in both

They sent me a whole form to fill in including the care descriptors, filled it in and sent it back

I started with 11 points for care and 10 for mobility this was in 2016, I also have osteoarthritis in both hips and my spine

They took 5 months to get back to me and said I have to have a telephone assessment
I had this about 3 month ago, they contacted me about 8 weeks by post

They said they can still award me standard for mobility and nothing for daily care, I then asked for mandatory reconsideration

I didn’t report changes to daily living, but I filled the form in any way

I returned my form, a lovely lady at DWP helped me fill it in

I got a letter this morning to say I can still have standard for mobility and nothing for daily living again

I had remembered something was wrong in the assessment, I phoned them up to tell them something I had forgotten about
It was that they had said I can put wrist braces on and drive a manual car, I can’t put them on my wrist, I put a elastic one on my left wrist

The mandatory decision had not mentioned this information, I don’t think it was assed on

I am more upset about the fact I had my benefit until 2023, is a degenerative disease and has got worse, I cant send any tests or notes because there isn’t any to give, I take a load of medication in any one day, and every day I am in constant pain

They said that they had changed some of the descriptors based on my answers?

They are more or less saying that over 6 years everything is better and I don’t need any help

I have a manual car and I go to the post office twice a week and because I can do that my hands are ok, there not I am I horrendous pain in my left wrist and, both my knees which are so bad

If I didn’t have a car I would be housebound

I started this last September and really want this sorting it’s making me poorly all of it

Do I tell them I don’t agree with them again, could someone please help, thanks…….Caz59

Hi Caz59,

I would go straight to tribunal with this. If you think your condition has worsened and the descriptor categories match your award from your last award and haven't gotten better.

If you see a specialist, such as for arthritis, try to get a letter from them.

Ask someone who knows what you go through to write a letter using the descriptors as a guide.

Use the guides on here to help.

Ask for a summary assessment from the GP’s reception to enclose.

Use any of your medical notes/records that may be useful for your claim.

Write a short diary describing your day.

Ask for help with your renewal from a charity such as CAB or a specialist one relating to your conditions.

Use the report from the medical professional, l and go through it with a fine tooth comb for anything you disagree with.

They cannot lower your award for a condition such as arthritis, as it does not improve as you get older.

Good luck
