Hi

I am in receipt of esa - support group and pip.

Someone mentioned to me that I would be entitled to SDP and should apply for it.

Is this true?

Will it mean another assessment? I really can't go through another one of them.

Thanks

Hi caroline sharp

It would depend on whether or not you are in receipt of IR ESA and if you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit such as PIP daily living component .

I would advise you to contact your local welfare right organisation; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Hi caroline sharp,
SDP or severe disability premium is an add on for some people who claim both means tested ESA and a daily living component of PIP.(Or similar under DLA etc)
To qualify you also need to live alone
Children are disregarded, so are others in your household who claim PIP or similar disability benefits such as DLA.

The second condition is that no one claims Carers Allowance for looking after you.

If you live with a partner who gets PIP if no one gets Carer's Allowance for either of you, you can both claim SDP, or if one of you has a Carer claiming CA you can get the single rate of SDP.

SDP requires no assessment. If you qualify you can contact DWP and ask for this to be paid. It is possible that SDP can be backdated. In theory SDP should be paid automatically when you become entitled to this but often this doesn't happen.
I hope this helps.
