Pip video assessment on 15th July was created by Mrsjaffa13
I applied for pip for the first time having been diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2013 after donating a kidney to my husband. The rheumatologist thinks the shock of the operation and a mess up with pain relief after the op probably caused it. Anyway it’s the first time I have plucked up the courage to apply. I am worried as I do drive short journeys and have an automatic car as I suffer with awful painful hands and I also work full time but from home . I have a brilliant employer with an Occupational health assessment in place with special chair, keyboard , talking package etc to help and regular breaks booked in also the permanently working from home.
I am so worried they will say no due to working and driving sometimes . I completed the form using your guides and submitted letter from my doctor and loads of medical history at the beginning of June and didn’t expect the assessment this quick.
I asked for morning appointment which they have done as get sooo tired and my husband will be with me. Any advice would be really appreciated as I also suffer from chronic fatigue so will struggle to concentrate for long and worried will give wrong answers to questions.

Hi Mrsjaffa13

Disabled people are allowed to drive cars, but I can't pretend that some assessors have a dim and sometimes unfair view of driving. Assessors often argue that if people are able to drive, then they don't need help in other matters such as cooking a meal or washing and dressing despite them requiring different levels of strength and dexterity. If you don't drive very often - make sure that you tell them that you do not drive on the majority of days. They will obviously question that you work. It's great that you have a good employer, but you will need to reiterate the problems you have despite having some reasonable adjustments put in place.

Everyone worries about giving the wrong answers to questions and the only way you can prepare for this is to read the guide and see what type of questions you are likely to be asked. Be aware that they nearly always ask a curve ball question eg one that is designed to try and catch you out. I can't tell you what it might be, but people are always left thinking 'why on earth did they ask me that?' If you are losing your train of thought say so and if you need to take a break say so.

Read from page 108 - of the Guide to PIP claims and reviews. Personal Independence benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip.

If you have any further questions do come back and ask and we will try to help you.
