pip video assessment was created by melisand
My son took part in his pip assessment on Monday this week. He was previously on DLA middle care and low mobility. He was tranferred to PIP. His PIP assement was awarded only six points. I joined your great site and took all the steps mandatory consideration no success. \i then appealed and attended a local tribunal and he was awarded 12 points care for standard portion and 12 points mobility. His claim was extended due to covid as June 22. I filled in his review form and sent it back last year. On Monday he and I hiscarer took part in a video assessment for PIP. Is this unusual. We live in Scotland and checked yhe transfer is on July 28 this year. The girl we got was English and said she was based there and could not give us any answers as to the transfer system. Now we await a decision on this claim. Is this a new claim or a continuation of the original claim. Another query is I have received a letter from the carers dwp saying my claim for carer payment will be stopped on July 10. As I am a pensioner I am not paid the carers allowance in full as I only allowed an underlying allowance as I have a state pension. This is reflected in my housing benefit claim. So obviously if they stop this payment on 10 July 10 I will have to pay more rent as I am above the level for pension credit. Can you advise me pn this.

Hi melisand
We have heard from a number of claimants who have taken part in a video assessment, so when you say is this the norm, I have never taken part in one. I did have a client last week who should have had one but she did not know how to set it up so ended up having a telephone assessment.
From what you have written I would say that your have had a review, these take place every few years.
Carers Allowance stops when you reach state pension age as it is classed as an overlaping benefit, you do have an underlying entitlement to CA, if you applied for Pension Credit it would give you an additional premium of £38.85 pw
As you are entitled to HB then you will get an additional carers premium of £38.85 as you have an underlying entitlement. When PIP stops the care element will stop. If the PIP claim gets reinstated and backdated the carers element will also be reinstated and backdated.
In Scotland there's a Carers allowance supplement which is paid twice in a year by the Scottish Government (June and December) but you have to be in receipt of Carers Allowance. For further information I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk
