PIP evidence - medical history was created by Tom
Hi. I'm currently doing my MR and as far as I can tell from the Decision Letter and PA3 assessment report it doesn't mention my GP being contacted or nhs medical history being looked at by them. Do they contact GPs as standard? Can I ask the DWP to obtain and look at my nhs medical history to back up my case themselves, or is this something I would need to get from my GP? Which is annoying as I'd have to pay. Thanks.

Hi Tom

PA3 is a paper assessment. DWP does not always contact Dr's, especially now that they have to pay for a report. If you had a paper assessment what evidence did you send in to support your claim?

GPs are not allowed to charge you for a copy of your medical records. Check out the Office of the Information Commissioner for verification of this.

Hi PDix

You are correct, but they can charge the DWP.

Hello Tom, I’m late to this discussion but for your reference you can access your own medical records held by their GP/Medical Practice at no cost.

Going forward , It is a very useful source of corroborating information and supporting documentation that claimants are/have been in contact with their GP/nurse/health practitioner about their ongoing health issues etc. Also, it is possible to provide a history of medications that may have been prescribed as well as any referrals made to other specialists.

If you choose to access your medical information in this way, a word of caution, CHECK THOROUGHLY FOR ACCURACY and remove any irrelevant or inaccurate information before using it. Good luck.
