Pip MR and query about new diagnosis was created by MissOuchie
Hello
I didn't manage to find this wonderful place until after sending my pip claim off in the post.
Been awarded only 2 points for socialising and 0 points for everything else.
No one would want to see the 'my decision' part of my letter. I was heavily judged for going to mainstream school, college and being a single parent. Eventhough I explained all the difficulties I had with everything.
When I made the call for a mandatory reconsideration, I did tell them that I have a new diagnosis and that my symptoms have increased but not by much. My question was to them, can I put the new diagnosis in the MR and explain that my symptoms have worsened?
This person said no and that I would need to make a new claim.
I was transferred to the new claim department and asked the same question. She had to speak to the case manager who then said that no, I would not need to make new claim. Just send in new evidence and fill out form.
I have never had a pip award and this has confused me. Does anyone else know which is correct?
I was living in temporary accommodation when I put in for a new claim and had welfare rights help me fill in the form via a phone call.
Moved to a different country in March and told DWP this.
On the waiting list for quite a few support organisations and orthopaedic Consultantation.
Really hoping I don't have to start a new claim as I've been waiting since December 2021.
Thank you for any input

Hi MissOuchie
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
I am a bit confused to what stage you are at, from reading your post I believe you have applied for a MR but no joy. The next stage would be to appeal the decision.
Before you appeal the decision, you need to contact DWP and ask for a copy of the assessors report called a PA4.
When you have the assessors report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and you will now be able to argue against them.
I usually use a highlighter to highlight any inaccuracies, once you have gone through the report you then set out why you are appealing the decision. You need to go through each descriptor one at a time why you disagree with the assessor and try and match it with any supporting documents you may have sent in.
Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say 'in my opinion' you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said., remember they are just an opinion which is not based on fact.
Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.
Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;
Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.
Have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide; benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip

Thank you for your in depth reply.
I'm at the stage of filling out the MR form. Just panicking a bit with getting a letter from my GP.
Gone through this whole process a few years ago and tribunal wasn't successful.
Can imagine I'm not the only one feeling this way.
I will go over the links you have put up.
Thanks
