Hi Gary , this isn’t my post but it does confuse me , please don’t think I’m being rude, I posted the other day stating I’ve been moved to universal credit and that my husband cares for me as I receive standard pip contributions based esa but my child is in receipt of high rate dla both components , my question was different as I asked if. Stated on the form that I did infact care for my child (I don’t receive caters allowance) and I can’t receive the carers element as I’m
I’m the no work group , well I asked by stating I did care , would that mean my pip could be reassessed or down graded without review and you said I was over thinking it , however , here you say write in advance on the form when applying for pip, so should I be telling pip I look after my child who has been Ill since being a baby is this something I need to say, because she is my child under 16. Should I worry about having things removed or down graded sorry for any confusion your help
Is really appreciated

Hi Chrystal

I've moved your post to its own topic, we ask members not to post their questions in other member's topics as it can lead to the wrong advice being given or taken.

On UC you cannot get both, the Carers element and LCWRA element usually at the same time, although there are exceptions, you are usually awarded the element that pays the highest award which will be the LCWRA element.

In regards to looking after a child, that would not cause an issue, I know many disabled claimants who look after their children, when you claim carers allowance you have to explain what additional care you do above the normal, if you are in receipt of PIP then you may need to explain how the impact of this extra care affects your disability.

You should get the high disabled child element in with your UC award.

Thank you so much Gary really appreciate this. Should I ring and tell
Pip or would they stop my award and contact me , would I also need to tell esa contributions based people . You are correct , although I put it on the form they don’t give it me as they give me the no capability work thing instead, so am I just worrying about nothing , will the still even have me down as a carer thanks so much

Hi Chrystal

Unless your condition has improved then you do not need to do anything. You have to report a change in your circumstances if your condition has improved.

All I would say for now is relax and enjoy looking after your child, take plenty of photos, as they grow up far too fast.
