Hi, As waiting lists at hospital are so long what could be used for evidence when a disability such as fibromyalgia is undiagnosed. Painkillers are bought. Gps letters have to be paid for and are not good evidence anyway.
Thanks carer89

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi carer89
This is a horrible dilemma because I can see the DWP immediately saying you have no diagnosis and not being seen by services it is not that serious! (Their words, not mine). If you have been referred by your GP, then your GP must have done it because you are in pain and/or exhausted (and may well have other symptoms) - then you can argue about the waiting times to see someone and explain how it impacts your life as per the PIP criteria. You say that painkillers have been bought, but I don't know whether you mean they have been prescribed by the doctor or you have had to take over-the-counter medicines. If the doctor has prescribed them it's another pitch to your argument - if you're having to manage with over-the-counter medicines the DWP is less likely to take any notice.

Hi carer89,
If you have the money you could seek a private referral. You don't necessarily need to continue with private treatment just get the specialist diagnosis, and ask that any medication be put on repeat prescription from the GP. Your GP might recommend someone, but you need to know which area of expertise you need. Perhaps Rheumatology? Once you know which expert, then you can probably Google the local private hospitals eg Spire or Nuffield and see who is available. Check whether they are members of the relevant specialist medical society. You could then phone up and ask what the cost is, and ask about the cost of tests. If you can manage the fee this may get your diagnosis done and a beginning of treatment too.
I hope this helps.

Hi carer89
If you receive help and assistance from any family member or from a friend you could ask them to write a supporting letter explaining what support they give you and why?
The why part is the important bit, it should detail what you struggle to do and why you need help.

I work at an association for carers. I am going to get a neighbour or friend of the client to fill in part of the PIP form - (someone who knows you) and get a GPS printout which will show the person has been referred to the hospital and then watch this space. I will let you know the outcome.
