DLA help please was created by libran1962
Hi
Please can I ask some advice about my dad?
We lost my mam after only two weeks with advanced ovarian cancer recently.Dad drove her motability car which was taken away.
Dad has various health issues including alzheimers and several physical issues inc back problems, intermittent claudication,COPD and angina. We were unaware that he is getting DLA high mobility rate until we went through the paperwork after Mam’s passing. We don’t know which condition he got it for either but it dates back to 2007.He is 76.
Mam helped with his care but various family members are doing this now between them and a sister has moved in with him.
wWe realised he is entitled to a motability car which we have organised and is due Sept but with this money that he got to live in going on the car it leaves him short of income plus he had a lot of his housing benefit taken off him plus pensions savings credit(he has a small private pension of £121.59 per month)
When we went to Age Uk they said he should be entitled to DLA care component and that if its successful his pension savings credit and housing benefit etc should be reinstated plus he may get extra benefits because of it.We have spent days filling the forms in with the help of the guides on here. The most confusing part is do we fill anything in on the mobility side at all?Age Uk say to just strike it through but the form says they will look at the whole claim not just the care.We are worried he will get the mobility part taken away if we don’t fill it in or do it incorrectly bearing in mind we don’t know exactly what he got it for originally. He would be so upset if he can’t get the motability car as driving wagons was his job all of his life and he still loves to go on small journeys every day
Please can anyone offer any advice?
Thank you in advance
Kind regards
Sizanne

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi libran1962
When you apply for a change of circumstances you cannot pick and choose, you do need to complete the whole form, was a copy kept of the last application form? if it was use that as a template for the mobility section. When you complete the form keep a copy.
If you do not have a copy you may want to get help in completing the form from your local Welfare Rights Organisation, Age UK, even your local authority. Some local authorities employ Resident Support Officers who can help to complete AA form, I know that Blaby council have some excellant RSO's.

had to get form off for deadline but sent it without filling in the mobility part as age uk said to strilke it out and a quick call back from welfare rights said the same as its a supercession… i truly hope they have given me the correct info
we had nothing about previous form as it was 2007 and mam dealt with everything
i feel we have filled care form part in to a good standard with the help of the excellent guidelines on here
