PIP ending Jan 2023 but required to make new claim now

I am the appointee for my daughter whose claim for PIP runs until 9 Jan 2023. I have received a letter from the DWP to say that 'If you still need help with your daily living and mobility you will need to claim PIP again. Do this now before your current award ends. Call us straight away.' Why do they need her to make a new claim six months before the award ends? It took almost two years for this amount to be paid and she has OCD (undiagnosed) and severe anxiety so I hate to put pressure on her.

Hi Eleanor

I'm sorry you are faced with this again - but this is normal for the DWP. They send out review forms up to a year before the end date. The reason is that it can take months to process forms (a situation which is worse since Covid) and to try and avoid claimants being left without any money. I'm afraid you have to complete the form. You can attach a note requesting a paper-based assessment if it would be too much for your daughter, although as her appointee, you should be able to speak on her behalf at a telephone assessment - though you need to point this out to them beforehand!
