Sorry, I don't know where to post this. hope this is OK. I am writing on behalf of my sister who claims UC. She filled in a Capability Questionnaire and sent it back over a month ago. She is not at all well; she has heart problems, learning difficulties, very bad oedema of one leg, has had 3 TIAs which have affected her balance et. etc. Her GP has been signing her off every 3 months (issuing a Fit Note!), despite all this the job Centre have insisted she visit (an hour's journey away) every fortnight and also visit Redcap (?) every 2 weeks, again 1 hr away. She cannot cross roads safely on her own as her TIAs have affected her balance, this is totally unsafe making her do this, finally the job centre has accepted phone appointments instead, but Redcap still want her to visit. She has now been passed to the Careers Advice (she's 48 and had a good job until too ill to work)!
Surely with a Fit Note she should not have to keep doing this? I used your guides to help her fill in the form, but she forgot to send it for another month (I live a long way away).
She also suffers from depression and anxiety which is made 100x worse by their insistence. She keeps calling me saying that she "cannot do this any more". Can they really expect her to travel when it is unsafe for her to do so and puts her in bed for several days afterwards?
I don't know what else I can do to help. Our brother has been appointed her guardian as she cannot cope with money (she has been the victim of so many scams as she believes everyone). I am the one she turns to for love and mental support.
Can you please advise?

Hi Sally

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

We do hear of this happening on the forum from other members, I would contact your sister's MP and get them involved, I would also make a formal complaint on your sisters Journal. You say that your brother has been appointed her guardian, has he also applied to be her appointee; www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-con...osure-of-information

Hi Sally sorry to hear this - it is very different from our experience so we are obviously lucky our job centre has not done this at all. Can I just check you have uploaded the fit note dates onto the Universal Credit system? And have you/your sister pointed out to the Job Centre that the fit notes are on there. They sometimes don't realise. I have had to say to them that we have a fit note.
Also has anyone ever attended the JobCentre with her - she can request a carer to attend and when I attended with my daughter I was able to say to them that it was unreasonable to ask us to attend every week/fortnight and they put us onto once a month. I would raise a formal complaint if the Fit notes are on the system then they should not be requiring any work activity until the assessment has been done (we sent our forms in March and still not heard back so it could be a long time before you get your assessment done).
