Ill health retirement pension and UC was created by Dawny1234
Hi, I had to take ill health retirement from the NHS last June (I'm 45). I receive £391 per month. I declared it to UC and is shown as other income on my statement. Is that correct or should it be classed as earned income?
Many thanks

Hi Dawny1234
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
I am not sure if it will make any difference as to what it is called, have you sort advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation url=https://advicelocal.uk] advicelocal.uk [/url]
One of the question I would ask is have you applied for New Style ESA as well as UC?

Thanks for the welcome and reply Gary.
I've used all the guides and very grateful for the advice given in them.
I've successfully applied for PIP and receive the LCWRA part of UC.
I'm just wondering if the ill health pension I receive classes as earned Income, I receive a PAYE on it. It currently shows up as other income on my UC statement. I'm just checking that is correct if anyone knows?
Many thanks

Hi Dawny1234
Yes, it would be classed as other income.
As you are in receipt of UC then any other income you receive such as an ill health pension, will be deducted £ for £.
Ill health pension is a taxable income, if you were not receiving UC but only NS ESA then it would be treated differently.
