Update: Just got a text saying from Independent Assessment Services saying I have a video assessment in two weeks! I had requested a paper assessment in my application form and am petrified about being able to attend convey(given my speech/jaw and associated problems) what I am being asked. On top of which the date is inconvenient as Ihave a hospital appointment at the time. I suppose I could request a change on that.
I am revisiting the guide but hyperventilating over attending now.
Any suggestions please? Also, has someone had a video assessment recently?
Thank you.

Hi owlofthemoon
I would contact IAS and inform them that ;
1) you have a hospital appointment that day so cannot make the appointment and you need to reschedule for another time, (make sure you have another time you are available)
2) Unless you have a smart phone then you will not be able to have a video assessment unless they do it by Teams or some other internet software, but if you do not have a camera then you will not be able to proceed.
My brother in law was meant to have had one a few weeks ago but they were unable to connect so ended up having a phone assessment.

Thank you Gary. Did your brother-in-law have issues joining and they rang his telephone or did he have to get in touch to find out? Does the onus lie with IAS or applicant?
Do I request a change via the telephone contact or email or a letter? Just wondering about a mode that is safe and reliable?
Alternatively I could re-arrange the hospital appointment given how long I have had to wait to hear back from them.
Some of the assessment experiences that I read are very distressing and worrying. I explicitly requested a paper assessment in my application citing reasons for the choice. Could I write or phone them to re-request a paper assessment ? or might it be safer to just go with the option I am offered and endure the consequences?
All this has me worried and worsened my current flare as I am most apprehensive about not being able to adequately convey owing to my various difficulties and limitations including physical, cognitive and mental challenges including speech difficulties, brain fog and anxiety. Although I will have my friend who is my carer with me during this, I am really not upto this and specially for an entire hour. I had included very detailed responses in the PIP form hoping to cover maximum ground including a cover letter explaining my work situation. I hadn't mentioned anything about hobbies as I hardly have the resources to have any. I didn't think Audibooks and staring out of the window counts for much.
Although I will have a copy of the form and other evidence sent - I am unlikely to be able to look at, comphrehend and formulate a response and enunciate enough to make sense. Based on the guidance, I need to ensure that I volunteer information that may be relevant but not asked by the assessor. Being awful at multitasking and with braig fog, I am most likely to miss.
Sorry about the long post. Appreciate all your inputs and help.

Hi owlofthemoon
I believe the assessor tried to contact via a video link could not connect so phoned on his landline, did a bit of messing about then decided to do a phone assessment. He lives in a rural area so mobile signals are not good.
Paper assessment are usually carried out if you send in enough supporting documents to assist DWP coming to a decision, who much supporting documents is enough, I have no idea.
You can contact the assessor to change an appointment if it clashes with a hospital appointment, they will not mind, the earlier you contact them to change the better.
Before the assessment set out bulet points you want to say so as you do not forget.

Thank you Gary.
I rang the IAS helpline to change my assessment type where I was told I could change it to Paper but they would come back for an assessment anyway. I found that odd and asked if they had not seen my assessment request in Section 4, which is when I was told that IAS HP's don't even get the information we send in the PIP2 form! The lady on the phone said that they don't need any of the information supplied in the form for the assessment. Apparently they cannot list more than 6 medical conditions in their system, I have several more.
I thought the assement was to gauge how the disability affects the applicant, if the HP does not have an inkling of how or what, hasn't read the PIP form, how can the assessment be relevant?
This has come as a shock. Is it even true? Have I been misinformed? Has someone had a similar experience of an assessment with IAS?
I changed it to telephone for now but I am now more worried as to how I am meant to convey 38 pages worth of information with diagrams, pain charts plus more in less than an hour ? It is simply impossible even with the help of my carer.
Any experiences? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

The phone operator is talking rubbish, the assessor has online access to your PIP2 and any information that was attached.
You can request a Paper assessment but you cannot require one, only the DWP can do this and it can insignificantly delay the process if they get involved and can risk the claim being progressed at all.
